Sorry no fabulous wedding or gorgeous engagement session to post this week and I may not be posting anything until after I get back from my wedding on April 22nd. I have been slammed with my very own wedding day prep work as well as wedding/engagement shoots. Lauren and Mike are the most down to earth genuine people, they met through eharmony, more and more of my couples are meeting online! I think it’s so wonderful, these two are truly a great match for each other. Lauren and Mike live in Annapolis MD, but Lauren is originally from TX, which is where I will be having my wedding NEXT MONTH! Eeee!

When I asked them if they had any places in mind location wise- Lauren said “We really only have two places we’d like to be photographed — one is the “pocket beach” in Eastport where we got engaged and then just generally around downtown Annapolis (City Dock, some of the smaller more quaint streets like Cornhill Street or Pinkney Street, etc.)”  I encourage all my clients to try and select locations that have some meaning for them, so it’s not just some random place, but a place that says something about you and your relationship. So we visited those spots a little later in the evening, but for a more cozy alone dock area I did some searching and found a wonderful private dock in Annapolis that we could visit for some warm sunny day photos in January. What great weather huh! Another wonderful fashion move (1st great fashion move this month): since ‘Tangerine Tango’ is the color of the year, Lauren sported a beautiful top in that shade from Jcrew, and of course a pair of jeans…TX style.  ;)

• The proposal story & why Texas?

She has these absolutely stunning, amazing, bright blue radiant eyes! I just love this photo! my gear almost fell in the water like 5 times getting it, because the wind was blowing my reflector around taking everything with it. The risk was more than worth it!I love SO many of these photos, but especially the first three right bellow —>This is ‘pocket beach’ and the spot where Mike popped the question! Gorgeous blue skies. 

and if your curious about my camera bag -yes, I haul around that much equipment. BUT thank goodness I have my awesome Think Tank airport roller camera bag, the most perfect camera bag ever made.

The two different socks, sunglasses to cover a makeup less face, and shapeless figure without a belt get me every time! 

I ALWAYS (except for when I am more afraid of missing my flight than cancer) opt out of the body scanner and get the pat down.

here are two really really bad jokes I found, I like bad jokes:

- What does the TSA actually stand for, Take Scissors Away? Thousands Standing Around? I can’t tell you how many stupid little things I have had taken before I learned my lesson and became very meticulous about packing my carryon.

- The other day my wife asked me to take her someplace real expensive to eat, so I took her to the airport. UGH! so true.

Now I’ll end with this last one, because that’s how I’m feeling this Monday morning….

I am so happy to share with you another wonderful Southern California wedding at the Orcutt Ranch in the West Hills of Los Angeles.  When I met Tricia and Jr. for the first time I knew their wedding was going to be awesome! they are such talented and artistic people who were going to bring a lot of that creativity and talent to their DIY style garden wedding. Tricia grew her own succulents for her bouquet, Jr designed the ‘save the dates’ and invitations (which are so cool! bird eating the grains of rice that spell out words), all the florals, signs, table settings, playlist and more were made by them. Music is something that they both share a passion for, the first time they met was at a live show. I was so excited when Chromeo came on! I must say that is for sure the first time I have heard that played at a wedding, they are inspiring me todo the same for my wedding. You can see their whole music playlist as well as all the wonderful places they got their awesome personal wedding details from, listed at the bottom of this post. I hope they inspire you too.

Tricia & Jr got these really great wedding rings with both of their names on the bands as well as the wedding date printed on the inside of the bands! another great product from etsy.Tricia did an amazing job growing these succulents & creating these wonderful arrangements! Tricia loves to crochet and even crocheted these awesome little flag banners herself, as a very personal touch. AND let me tell you this was a LOT of work to do. Custom made CD’s were the wedding favors for gusts to take home! want to see what they had on their playlist? check it out bellow.
she’s so lovely! absolutely glowing!This was their ‘Fist Look’ and Tricia might kill me for posting the second photo, but I love it! she was so over come with emotion that the anticipation was hitting her hard. This was really a wonderful moment for them and I think it really helped take a little pressure off the walk down the isle… don’t get me wrong, they still had lots of pressure and that ‘wow, this is really happening moment’ when she walked down still happened. A first look is kinda like having your cake and eating it too!!! read more about what a ‘first look’ is and other wedding tips HEREHere comes the BRIDE!!!Their ceremony was very unique, they incorporated elements into the ceremony which included the guests participation. They passed around their wedding rings for everyone to touch, then Tricia took a photo of her guest during the ceremony to immortalize that moment.After the ceremony they greeted each guest on their way out of the ceremony area.
Now it’s family portrait time. This is one of ‘three generations’ grandmother, granddaughter, and mother.The MR & MRS SOTO…Taco cart!! OMG this food was sooo good!!Every now and then I have the opportunity to surprise the happy couple with a wedding day slideshow featuring photographs taken earlier THAT day, I had the day of slideshow displayed for them after dinner that evening… this is a photo of them checking it out before their first dance.OK so obviously music was a HUGE influence on their wedding, and everyone was loving it. This is the ‘shopping cart’ dance move!!! haha. When the people in crutches are dancing, you know it’s a lively crowd!

What is a photobomb??!! you ask…

We started the day around 45min before sunset, it was a gorgeous day, and the perfect time to take advantage of the lovely garden area they had outside. In fact the groom is a photography enthusiast and picked this venue because of the great photo opportunities! We took some photos away from all the guest so no one would see the bride (or couple) before they made their grand entrance to the reception.

From there everything was held inside of the Hiltons large banquet room, with very little lighting. I love the results and I hope you do to!

This was the first time he saw his bride that day! Her eyes are SO amazing! they just draw you in …A couple wide shots across the pond.These kids were so hilarious! I loved the energy and the excitement they brought to the day… and here comes the groom!Here comes the bride!

Life if great  

Needless to say I could not stop shooting!!! There were so many deer walking about that we were even able to capture them in a few shots! I am a big nature lover and always try to grab a few photos when we are graced with a visit from wildlife, like these squirrels, you can’t plan something like this.

It doesn’t look like it was a cold day, but let me tell you it was. Sharon didn’t let that slow us down and keep it going all the way until sunset where her & Robert walked up some pretty sketchy stairs to get the shots at the end. Thank you Robert for looking out, and thank you both for trusting me and sending me a copy of your ‘Save the Date’ featuring 4 of your favorite images- It’s hanging on my office wall.

Can you see the deer? they blend in so well!

Recently during an engagement shoot, I was walking around with my flash and pocket wizard attached to my light stand, then when I went to go pick it up the sucker slides off and BAM! hits the ground with this horrible crash and pieces go flying. UGH! all the batteries scattered and it was a (little) mess. It’s always my natural reaction to say “it’s ok, don’t worry, not a big deal” immediately after something like this happens… before I really even know if “it’s ok”.  Maybe I do it just to calm my self down, and deflect the sad gazes people flash my way. I picked everything up, with the help of my amazing couple, and assembled all the pieces. It WAS OK. good thing my pocket wizard took the blow in a place that really didn’t impede the function of the unit. It’s brand new by the way, just thought I’d throw that out there.

next up, my 50mm lens filter – yep, took this puppy off one day because it was bothering me. I had it in my mind that the clarity of my images was being affected by the glass on the filter… well I won’t be putting that back on, because I chipped the glass on the filter when I dropped it trying to take it off my lens. Oh well!

I have so many little things on an engagement shoot that I need an extra pair of hands, If anyone ever wants to come and help/learn/hangout/assist on a future engagement shoot. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.
